Well, if your the kidda guy who wants to see non stop footage of dead skinny black kids in torn clothes face down under piles of rubble then you must be in hog heaven right now.  i mean it must be ratings month or something because you can't turn on the t.v. without seeing news footage from haiti of dead kids face down in the mud or sweating to death in a red cross tent village and everybody loves that!  it's fun , it's sexy, it's t.v. gold...what's that?  you...you don't like watching that? no one does? well that's weird.  me niether now that you mention it.  it's kinda depressing right?  i mean...it's only 25 degrees here and those people are wearing shorts and flip flops!  i think that the fact that all third world countires are in warm climates is evidence of how lazy mankind is.  if you live in a place where you don't have to do much to stay alive (i.e. it's warm, fishing is easy)...then you won,t do much. people in cold climates who have to work hunt farm to stay warm and feed managed to produce functioning modern civilaizations.

 i wonder what happened to all the other crises that where going on around the world before Haiti fell into the drink.  i mean, are there any polar bears under that rubble? and ...last time i checked WE didn't have government health care yet in this country.   who are we to offer aid to the glorious land of socialism that is Haiti when we...right in our own back yard...might not have enough swine flu vaccine yet?!

now some of the more knowledgeable of you may point out to me that this was an unfair crack and that Haiti...isn't actually socialist it's more of a dictatorship and fully corrupt. the government takes money are keeps it for itself...it's the corruption not socialism that is to blame for Haiti having spent no infrastructure to prepare for this sort of thing.  please...pay close attention. a corrupt dictatorship IS socialism...it is the only possible outcome of socialism given the fact that humans are corrupt.  are you so stupid as to think no one is THIS country will figure out that they can use the government programs set up in the spirit of good will to get rich? they already have of course.  

which in a round about way brings me to a point about the news coverage.  what kind of ghoul can sit there in a shirt and tie and report into a camera for cnn or whoever...while people are dying at their feet?  could you?  could you read from a teleprompter while behind you people are desperately trying to dig out a 4 year old from under a building?  i am reminded of a great line from Sam Kinison when he was talking about the Ethiopian food drives and the commercials begging for 50 cents a day to adopt a starving child, he said "hey why don't you feed him, you're only five feet away?!".   Ask yourself if you could look into a camera, no...wait...make that sit in a chair getting make up for an hour and THEN look into a camera and report instead of actually helping the people yourself?

no doubt these reporters think that they are helping by showing YOU, the viewing public, the horrors and motivating YOU to do something to help.  

Good lord...are we all truly that shallow and dumb?  we MUST be...we must be or every news channel wouldn't all be fighting over putting the most pathetic image of Haiti on the screen. Are we so dumbed down, so oblivious, jaded, and desensitized, that this is what it takes to get a humanitarian rise out of us?  perhaps i sound like i am contradicting my pervious blog?  let me say two things about why this all disappoints me.  

first let me put this in a football analogy.  see when a team has a shitty defense and coach, everyone of their players just runs at whoever has the ball, so if the quarterback has it they all run at him and if he hands it off they all run at that guy, and this is stupid because all the offense has to do is let you get real close and then throw it somewhere else...and score a touchdown because all of your guys ran at the same player and left the other player wide open.  a GOOD defense will have everyone covering a cretin position on the field and that way they never get suckered.   makes sense right?  right now this country is like the first shitty defense i described.  we ALL in MASS run to solve/give a shit about whatever problem is on t.v the loudest that day.  the t.v. tells you health care and EVERYBODY GIVES A SHIT ABOUT HEALTH CARE...and voices their worthless opinions and whoops it up, then the TV yells SWINE FLU and EVERYONE in MASS makes a big deal about the swine flu,  and then Tiger woods, and then the jersey shore, and then the greenhouse effect, and so on and so one.  we all know a whole lot on nothing about everything. how about all of us...just focus on being better people, being more informed, each picking a subject and learning about it (LEARNING ABOUT BOTH SIDES YOU ASSHOLES) and doing what you can about what is in your ability to do something about.  because otherwise you have eleven guys chasing a guy who doesn't have the ball anymore...or in practical terms 300 million people donating money to charities that are complete frauds OR don't have the ability to get the food and supplies past the corrupt gangsters/government officials in Haiti.

the SECOND thing that makes me sad about this is that assholes all of a sudden realizing that there are third world countries right in out back yard, and all of a sudden wanting to do something about it, too me is much like the assholes who get all worked up over the JFK assassination.  "oh oh the government killed him! oh oh the government is corrupt and there was a conspiracy"...do you honestly NEED to see footage of the president getting shot in the head to understand that there might be corrupt elements in our government?  to me weather he got shot by one guy or two guys or a whole army platoon doesn't change my opinion of the government one bit.  I believe any government is capable of horrible things and that's why you keep an eye on them...by "them" i mean the CURRENT government....whoever is in charge at the time...NOT the government from 40 plus years ago who may or may not have shot the president.   It's the same thing with this Haitian thing...do you NEED to see a Childs torso sticking out from under a half of a 1950s checker cab before you understand that a lot of the world is a hell hole that cannot or will not fend for itself?  

IN part we can blame the assholes on the news channels who are showing us this footage convinced that they are helping by doing so.  no...they are not helping, any more that a defensive player yelling "he's got the ball".  they are desensitizing us, confusing us, distracting us, and making egomaniacs out of each and every one of use, by showing us footage of a catastrophe they we didn't cause, could not have prevented, have little ability TO do anything about because of the stupidity and corruption of the Haitan leaders as if to say "here YOU can fix this."

so am i saying "don't help"?!...hmmm i guess in a way i am.  i am saying YOU as an American have your own problems to deal with.  ease your conscious by doing some good in your own back yard.  or start donating to the blood bank or the red cross, or do something that is going to help the next problem.  

because what is going to happen now...and i guarantee this.   oh...500 million to several billion dollars in aid is going to get poured into the country of Haiti that two weeks ago was worth about $10,000 net.   50% of the money and aide will be completely unaccounted for when this is all said and done.  and when i say 50% i mean it's possible that number could go up to 80%.  and i'm not including the people who will be stealing money out in the open by charging 400,000 for a bag of rice to be shipped. you have a disorganized third world country...with a corrupt government, that is in complete chaos, it is the perfect cluster fuck.  the best thing that could happen now is in about a week, when all the assholes are really getting into gear down there to "help"...is for another earthquake to hit and finish off the hell hole for good, with all the visiting assholes on it.

and by the way Joe Biden has said some dumb things in his day...but telling the American people to give money to the U.N. is by far the dumbest.  these people have continually stole money given them to help some other poor country.  (see "oil for food program") they do it every time.  giving them money is like charlie brown running to kick the football.  I saw Bill Clinton and GW on cnn the other day talking about the efforts being made and how to send money and they all but said flat out -uhm...don't give money to the U.N. 

in conclusion I'm picking the Vikings and the colts this weekend.
