why go home, why go home, why go home...

Not much to talk about...haven't done anything but work.

so...here what i've been working on aside from the cartoon, some of you might find it interesting.

When i submit things to my editor at Mad they are just rough sketches.  when i was doing my own book too i would usually send them i fully inked pages because i knew if they didn't want to use them i would happily add them to whatever i was getting ready to publish.  the Possessed Child and the drunk Nazi Doctor pages from Arsenic Lullaby Omega are two pages Mad turned down...for obvious reasons, but i like to send them hardcore stuff from time to time so that my mid level hash gags don't seem so harsh.  don't know if this actually works or not, but you gotta make the job fun ya know?

but really all they ask from me are roughs and that's what i've been sending off lately

Of the four i thought the drug sniffing dog was the best, and the other three were about even. the horseman gag wasn't hysterical but had some merit, the toothfairy gag was funny but might be confusing, and the drill head was okay...it had boobs in it and anything with boobs has a fifty fifty shot.  

they took the drilling the head page.  i didn't ask them why they didn't pick up the drug sniffing dog one...cause...i've been making my opinion on the overall magazine heard lately and decided to cool my heels a little on any interaction other than "try these" , "okay that will be done by monday"

so anyway that's the one they picked and a scant five days later they had a polished colored version

as i drew this and tweaked scenery and adjusted compostion for help the over all peice i realized...i hate doing comics.  literally...i hated doing this pages and couldn't wait for it to end so i could go back to the cartoon. This is the only comic book page i've inked and finished since Arsenic Lullaby Omega came out and it took me forever. I put why too much work into this stuff. the panel with the two spirits could have just as easily had them just hovering i n the sky and not had a birds eye view of the city block, the drill could have been less accurate and more cartoony, and one or two actual bricks here and there would have just as well conveyed that the walls were brick rather than draw brick throughout the whole wall.  i spend five days on this thing and i probably could have cut corners and had it done in two.  not t o mention all the tricks and techniques you have to use to get all the information on one page and have it flow well.  i HATE it.

the plan was to take the best stuff that Mad couldn't use and put in in the upcoming collection as bonus pages...but you know, that might not happen.  on account of the hate.

oh yeah did another one of these guys to attempt a mold/cast with.  if it works there will be zombie fetus mini busts available.  if it doesn't work...there will be another gooey prototype on ebay.
